Meet Anthony
When we met Anthony, we quickly became friends. He is hilarious and seriously smart. Anthony had been renting for a while but was looking to lay down roots for himself and his daughter Bella. Anthony’s daughter had just entered the terrible teens so we needed to move fast ;) We wanted to make sure the two of them got a great first home!

The Search Begins…
Our home search started strong and we were convinced we found a gem in Wilmington’s Pirate’s Cove neighborhood. This home had great schools, is close to a park and a creek, in a quiet neighborhood with tons of trees and squirrels!

Unfortunately, it was too good to be true, unless you actually wanted to live like a pirate…
A closer inspection uncovered sinking bathrooms and bouncy floors. Water was getting under the house and causing all kinds of havoc. It turned out the cost to make the home "right" was about $25,000. This was a little too much for a first time home buyer, so the search continued.
Dedication to Satisfaction
The search for a new home did not stop there! Eventually, we found a home in the Eagles Nest neighborhood that was even better than the Pirate’s Cove house. It needed work but had a huge yard and a giant covered porch.
In all, it only needed about $10,000 in repairs which Anthony was much more comfortable with.
We were able to find Anthony a lender familiar with FHA renovation loans. These loans cover the cost to purchase the home plus the cost to repair it all wrapped up in one! We then helped him find Holliday Construction, a great local general contractor, to make the repairs.
Anthony was able to buy a good home for a great price and have a professional do the work right away. Once the work was finished, an FHA appraiser returned to determine the home's value. The home appraised for $30,000 more than what Anthony purchased it home for, which is almost unheard of when buying a home.

Anthony has a ton of equity in his home from the start, a place to lay down roots, and room to grow his family. Actually not long after purchasing his first home Anthony married Ms. Marisa, the love of his life.
Now we aren’t saying that SWELL is the reason Anthony, Bella, and Marisa are living happily ever after. But we definitely helped set them off in the right direction!
