Before the owner and founder of SWELL home & living, Ty Shaw, was about to propose to his girlfriend, he hired a photographer. This particular photographer was friends with Elise and invited her to help him with the shoot.
Well, after some fancy cocktails at their favorite bar in Wilmington, The Blind Elephant, Ty popped the question and she said yes! Elise was there for an extremely important moment, with a coincidentally interesting proposal…she was starting an event planning business.
Wedding planner meets newly engaged real estate agent…fate?

Ty & Monica needed a wedding planner, and Elise & Chris needed a new home!
Elise became Ty & Monica’s day of coordinator at a beautiful and delightfully hiccup-free wedding. Despite Elise being quite pregnant with her first child, nothing slowed this lady down, and her new business was off to a great start!
After their first child, Grayson was born Chris and Elise decided it was time to make a move, upgrade, and own their first house.
And of course, they called SWELL.
The SWELL Journey Begins
Chris & Elise were living in a house between 2 very busy roads on a potage-stamp-sized lot. They had 2 dogs, and their first baby boy, and were feeling way too cramped in their tiny downtown Wilmington rental home.
Both Elise & Chris worked in Leland. She as a full-time teacher with an upstart event planning business, and he as a firefighter. Naturally, they wanted to make the jump across the bridge and become official Leland residents and home-owners.
Elise was tired of living in dated homes and wanted their first house to be new construction. Since Leland is such a fast-growing city including infrastructure and housing, this wasn’t a hard task.
The SWELL Way for Families
Chris & Elise found their dream home in The Forest at Mallory Creek.
Not only was this neighborhood close to both of their jobs, but it was also brand spanking new construction!
There was a pool around the corner and a great park for the doggos to get some real exercise without cars racing by.
As smooth as the events Elise plans for a living, this house was the one for them and they went under contract quickly and easily! Which is the best possible scenario for these lovely first-time buyers.
Since Chris is a veteran of the U.S. military, and still currently serves and protects his country by fighting fires, their family qualified for some of the best SWELL Specials we have to offer!
